Book binding card ideas are a wonderful way to make your handmade cards feel a little more special while still keeping the design simple and achievable. This fold creates the look of a book spine along the side of the card and is a great way to show off beautiful Designer Series Paper.
In my Facebook and YouTube Live on 30th April, I shared how to create this fun fold along with two different card styles using some of the new papers and In Colors.

Why Book Binding Card Ideas Work So Well
Book binding card ideas are a wonderful way to make your handmade cards feel a little more special while still keeping the design simple and achievable. This fold creates the look of a book spine along the side of the card and is a great way to show off beautiful Designer Series Paper.
It is a great choice when you want something a little different from a standard card fold, and it works beautifully with Designer Series Paper.
It is also an excellent design for showing off paper that deserves to be seen.
Moonlit Flora Book Binding Card
The first card features the beautiful Moonlit Flora Designer Series Paper with its rich darker tones, ferns, flowers, and koru-inspired shapes. This paper feels especially lovely for us here in New Zealand and works beautifully for more elegant or nature-inspired cards.

For this version, I used a Golden Glow card base, one of the new In Colors, which helps bring out the warmer tones in the paper. I also added some Secret Sea ribbon around the spine to highlight the book binding detail.
The sentiment was layered using a die from the Spotlight on Nature Dies, keeping the front fairly simple so the Designer Series Paper could really stand out. I also added a couple of the In Color Butterflies, which are some lovely new embellishments.
Bloom Boutique Book Binding Card
The second card uses Boutique Blooms Designer Series Paper paired with a Hydrangea Hue card base and Peaceful Pine matting. This is the card I created during the Live.

This version has a softer and fresher feel compared to the darker Moonlit Flora card, but it uses exactly the same fold. The contrast between the blue floral paper and the darker green matting creates a lovely elegant look.
I added Hydrangea Hue ribbon around the spine along with a simple sentiment layered using the Labeled With Love Punch. This punch is currently retiring, and I know I will miss it when it is gone because I use it all the time on my cards. If it has been on your wish list, now is a good time to grab it while it is still available.
Keep It Simple or Step It Up
This fold works beautifully with just Designer Series Paper and a greeting, but you could also add:
- A stamped focal image
- Die-cut flowers or leaves
- Extra layers and embellishments
- More detailed sentiment layering
Or simply leave the focus on the paper itself.
