Last week I shared some monochromatic ways to use the Sunflower Embossing Folder, but this week I decided to bring it to life with colour! I tried two different colouring methods – Stampin’ Blends and daubers – and I love how they each create a completely different look.

The folder itself is large (6″ x 81/2″ or 15.2 x 21.6 cm), which means you can emboss a large piece of cardstock and then trim it to size after colouring. For this project, I used the debossed side so the colour would sit beautifully inside the recessed areas.
Here is the Sunflower 3D Embossing Folder:
Sunflower Embossing Folder with Stampin’ Blends
Stampin’ Blends give you rich, bold colour and allow for shading in specific areas. I used Daffodil Delight for the petals, Old Olive for the leaves, and Pecan Pie for the centres. It takes a little more time than sponging, but the results are well worth it – especially when you swipe Early Espresso ink over the raised areas for extra contrast.

If you prefer a quicker option, daubers are your friend! The colour is softer and a little less precise, but you can still achieve beautiful results. I used the same colours as above, then finished with that same Early Espresso swipe to highlight the texture. This method is faster, making it great for when you want to create multiple cards in one sitting.

Two Looks, One Technique
Whether you choose the smooth blending of Stampin’ Blends or the soft sponging of daubers, the Sunflower Embossing Folder really shines. You can even experiment with other colour combinations – how about autumn tones, or a more rustic look with grey or black swiping over the top?

Have you tried colouring with an embossing folder before?
I’d love to know which look you prefer – bold with Blends or soft with daubers. Leave me a comment or send me a photo of your creation. And if you’d like to order the Sunflower Embossing Folder or any of the supplies I used, you can shop online here or contact me and I can order it for you.
