Masked Circle Background Card With Meadow Dies

By | 9 May 2023

For today’s cards I created a masked circle background. I then added some black die-cut flower and leaf shapes from the Meadow dies. It creates a lovely crisp, clear look.

To make the masked circle, I cut out a circle using the Layering Circle Dies from a piece of Basic White cardstock, (the same size as the piece I was going to colour).  These circle dies have now retired, but you could use another circle die or a circle punch.

I placed the cut out circle over the piece of Basic White I wanted to colour.  Using a Blending Brush and ink in circle motions, starting off the page, I brushed colour in the circle space.  I wanted an ombré type effect, so I had more colour at the bottom of the circle and less colour at the top.  The reason it is best to start sponging off the page is because when you first put the Blending Brush down, you often get a dark blob of ink.  Once I was happy with the way it looked, I lifted off the mask and there I had was a lovely circle.

One of the cards is sponged in Rich Razzleberry retired on 1st May.  I’ve enjoyed using this colour, and it is sad to see it go, but I know that we now have some wonderful new colours. The other card is in Highland Heather.

I die-cut out of Basic Black cardstock, the butterfly and leaf shapes and adhered them to the card front.

I also sponged the die-cut shape for the sentiment which is also from the Meadow dies.  The sentiment is from the Art Gallery stamp set. I adhered this to the card with Dimensionals and also tied a bow with some Black Twine.

The front of the card was adhered to a piece of Basic Black and then onto the card base which was either Rich Razzleberry or Highland Heather.

To finish it off, I once again used one of my favourite embellishments at the moment, the Iridescent Rhinestone Basic Jewels.

Here are the supplies I used, however, the Rich Razzleberry ink and cardstock, the Layering Circle dies and anything else that has retired will no longer be included in the supplies.

If you have tried masking before, why not give this masked circle background technique a try.
