I love the new Merry Melody 3D Embossing Folder, but I sometimes cringe when I see a beautiful card but the dry embossed piece has the music up the wrong way. As someone who plays the piano, I find it hard to look at notes when the stems or tails don’t go the right way. If you adhere the Merry Melody 3D Embossing Folder upside down the tails on the quavers are not going the way they should. This is what it should look like.
When you put an embossing folder through a cut and emboss machine you should put the hinge end in first. With the hinge at the top, the music is actually upside down. Many people after putting the hinge end if first, then end up adhering it the same way as they put it through the machine without thinking about it, so that assume it is the right way up, but it isn’t.
Also, I usually put cardstock in the middle of the folder so for this type of folder the clefs and time signature would get cut off. The clef and time signature would be another indication of which is the right way up, but if it is not on the embossed piece, then we can’t use that as a reference. For the card above I placed the cardstock more to one side so that I included the clefs and time signature. If you look at the time signature you will see numbers and that is one way of seeing which way the music should go. However if you dry emboss your piece of cardstock in the middle of the folder then you won’t have any time signature/numbers to use as a reference.
Another way to know which way the music should go is to look at the tails on the quaver notes. Below is a photo showing you the right way of the dry embossed piece and how the quavers should look.
This is the image of the Merry Melody 3D Embossing Folder in the online store and even in this photo the music is upside down!
Here is a video showing you how to recognise which way the dry embossed piece should go:
