Monochromatic Sunflower Embossing Folder Cards

Looking for inspiration using the Sunflower Embossing Folder? In this week’s Facebook and YouTube live, I shared a series of monochromatic sunflower embossing folder cards—each with its own colour variation, technique, and texture.

Sunflower Monochromatic cards

This large embossing folder is stunning on its own, but when paired with monochromatic tones, it creates a range of striking designs that are simple yet elegant. Whether you prefer the raised embossed side or the indented debossed look, there’s so much you can do.

Monochromatic sunflower embossing folder cards: different styles, one folder

The focus for this week’s session was using one colour (or tone-on-tone combinations) to create cohesive, eye-catching cards. While I kept the layouts similar for consistency, the results from each version were wonderfully unique.

I started with white cardstock and experimented with both sides of the embossing folder. The embossed side picks up ink on the raised areas, while the debossed side creates a different feel altogether, letting the recessed areas hold the ink.

I also played with:

  • Ink on coloured cardstock, including Fresh Freesia and Secret Sea
  • Two-tone cardstock with gentle sanding to reveal the white core (featured with Darling Duckling)
  • Craft white ink over Secret Sea cardstock for a beautiful soft finish
  • Black and white for a bold, classic option using Memento ink

Each version showed off the sunflower texture in a unique way—especially when paired with a simple sentiment punched with the Labeled with Love Punch, some ribbon, and coordinating embellishments.
