Aqua Painters are great at creating a watercolour look. They are easy to use as the water is inside the barrel of the pen. This makes it easy and causes no mess.
Aqua Painters can also be used for colouring stamped images, especially embossed ones. This is shown on the card below.
What paper should I use?
One of the most important things to remember when using Aqua Painters is that, because you are using water, the best cardstock to use is either Shimmery White Cardstock or Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper. These types of paper/cardstock absorb the water well.
Shimmery White Cardstock: This comes in an A4 size and has a delicate shimmer on both sides. It comes in packs of 10, so is reasonably economical. You can get four card fronts from one sheet of A4.
Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper: This is a thick paper designed especially for watercolouring. It is a cold-pressed, archival cotton paper. It has a natural white colour with subtle texture. You also get 10 sheets per pack, except they are smaller. 5″ x 7″ (12.7 x 17.8 cm)
How do I use an Aqua Painter?
First unscrew the top of the Aqua Painter, and fill up the barrel with water. You may have to squeeze the barrel a little to get some water to come to the brush tip. Then pick up some ink with the brush. To do this, either get ink from the inside lid of an ink pad, or a drop from an ink refill bottle. Then mix the ink with the water from the Aqua Painter. Watch the video below to see how this is done.
