Tips for Colouring with Stampin’ Blends Featuring Country Flowers

By | 9 November 2024

Today, I’m excited to share some tips for colouring with Stampin’ Blends! I used them to bring this card to life, featuring the beautiful Country Flowers bundle with both stamps and dies.

To create this card, I stamped the teapot and floral images in Memento Tuxedo Black ink, then coloured them with Stampin’ Blends. For this design, I stamped the images separately and cut them out with the coordinating dies. However, you can also stamp them together for a complete, unified image – I’ll include examples of both approaches later in the post.

Why Use Stampin’ Blends?
Stampin’ Blends are high-quality, alcohol-based markers that make colouring vibrant and seamless. They’re perfect for crafters of all levels and are one of my go-to tools for adding smooth gradients and lifelike shading to stamped images. Here are some tips to help you make the most of your Blends:

  1. Start Light – Begin by laying down the lighter shade of your chosen colour. This sets a good base and makes blending with darker tones easier, creating a smooth gradient.
  2. Use Circular Motions – Small, circular strokes help prevent streaks and create an even finish, especially in large areas.
  3. Layer for Depth – Add dark shades gradually to build dimension where shadows naturally fall, like the edges of petals.
  4. Use the Colour Lifter for Highlights – The Colour Lifter is fantastic for lightening areas that need a bit more brightness, giving a gentle lift to darker spots.
  5. Work in Small Sections – Since Stampin’ Blends dry quickly, working in small sections ensures the smoothest blending before the ink sets.

Once I finished colouring my images, I embossed a piece of Misty Moonlight cardstock with the Eyelet 3D embossing folder to add texture and adhered it to a Smoky Slate card base. For a touch of pattern, I added a strip of Country Lace Designer Series Paper [DSP].

The stamp set includes a table for the flowers to sit on. Instead of colouring it with Stampin’ Blends, I stamped it onto a scrap piece of Country Wood DSP and then cut it out with the coordinating die. Both the table, teapot and floral images were adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals to add a bit of lift.

To finish off the card, I added a touch of Linen Thread and a few Earth Tones Shimmer Gems for a bit of extra texture and sparkle.

The Country Flowers stamp set is also beautiful on its own without any die-cutting. Here are some cards I made for Coffee & Cards that showcase just simple stamping. Even without dies, the flowers still look stunning!
