Have you heard of two-step stamping but are wondering what it is? Today’s post will answer that question.
Two-step stamping involves using more than one stamp to create your finished image. There are two ways you can do this technique.
1) More than one stamp to complete an image:
Two-step stamping is when there are two or more stamps required to complete an image. Each stamp usually uses a different colour. For example, the first step might be stamping a stem and leaves stamp in one colour. The second step might be stamping a flower stamp in a different colour. After completing these two stamping steps, the image is complete. It wouldn’t look right if it was just the stem or the flower!
The Daisy Lane stamp set is a good example of this type of two-step stamping. Here you would stamp the flower in one colour and the stem and leaves in another.
2) Combination of an outline stamp and a solid stamp:
Another type of two-step stamping allows you to add colour to the stamped image without having to use things like Stampin’ Write Markers, Stampin’ Blends, Watercolor Pencils etc. To colour the image you use ink and a solid stamp designed to go with the outline stamp. This technique allows you to stamp the outline stamp in one colour and use a different colour for the solid part. Sometimes you might want to use a darker colour for the outline, and a lighter colour or a stamped-off image to stamp the inside.
The Butterfly Gala stamp set is an example of this second method. The butterfly stamp is an outline of the butterfly. There are also some solid stamps that can be stamped over the top of it to colour in the wings. There are extra stamps so the butterfly body can be stamped on it too.
