A Handmade Gift Card Holder for Christmas and Other Occasions

By | 19 December 2025

If you’re giving gift cards this Christmas, this gift card holder for Christmas is a lovely way to make them feel extra special. Gift cards are always appreciated, but presenting them in something handmade adds a personal touch that shows you’ve taken a little extra care. This project was the focus of my Facebook and YouTube live on 18th December and is perfect for those last-minute Christmas preparations.

What I love about this design is that it’s quick to make, yet still looks thoughtful and finished. It’s ideal when you want something handmade without committing to a full card, and it works beautifully for both Christmas and other occasions throughout the year.

Gift card holder ideas using Christmas papers

I’ve used both the bright colours of the Traditions of Christmas Designer Series Paper and the softer look of the wreath design from the Christmas Tags & More DSP, paired with a Forever Plaid embossed piece. The contrast between bold and subtle shows just how flexible this design is, and this project can easily be tailored to suit your own style and colour preferences.

By changing the paper, embossing folder, or sentiment, you can create a completely different look using the same base design. It’s a great way to use up smaller pieces of Designer Series Paper while still creating something that feels special.

This is what the inside looks like. The words are from the Traditional Labels stamp set. The leaf is from a retired stamp set.

Not just for Christmas gift cards

While this gift card holder works perfectly for Christmas, it’s definitely not limited to the festive season. With a simple swap of papers and sentiments, it’s just as useful for birthdays, thank you gifts, weddings, graduations, or teacher appreciation.

It’s one of those designs that’s worth saving, as you can come back to it again and again whenever you need a quick and practical handmade gift.
