Quick & Simple Patterned Paper Cards with the Painted Illusions Designer Series Paper

By | 13 February 2026

Quick & Simple Patterned Paper Cards are such an easy way to create something beautiful without overthinking the design. In this week’s Facebook and YouTube Live (12th February 2026), I shared two easy layouts using patterned paper — or DSP (Designer Series Paper), which is the Stampin’ Up! name for patterned paper. I have used Painted Illusions DSP which is this month’s, Product of the Month.

Designer Series Paper is usually double sided, which makes it incredibly versatile. Occasionally there are specialty sheets that aren’t double sided, but most packs give you two coordinating designs on every sheet. That means you can flip pieces over, mix patterns confidently, and get more value from each sheet.

If you’ve ever looked at your patterned paper and wondered how to use it without covering it all up, these layouts are a great place to start.

Easy Patterned Paper Layout – Sketch 1 (Wider Feature Panel)

The first sketch I shared in the Live features a wider panel across the top of the card, with a coordinating strip down the side and a smaller strip along the bottom.

Measurements (Metric – A4 Card Base)
Card base: 14.8cm x 21cm, folded in half
White layer: 9.5cm x 13.8cm
Large panel: 6cm x 9.5cm
Side strip: 2.8cm x 9.5cm
Bottom strip: 3.5cm x 9cm

This layout is perfect when you have a piece of DSP you really want to highlight. The wider panel lets the pattern shine, while the smaller strips add balance and contrast.

To finish the card, I stamped the sentiment and cut it out using either the 1¾” or 2″ circle punch. For these cards I used the Fabulous Sayings stamp set – the Product of the Month for January.
I adhered some ribbon behind the circle and then attached it to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals to give it a little lift. On some of the cards, I added a few embellishments for extra detail, but they’re completely optional.

I loved using the Painted Illusions DSP here because the blended colours create movement without needing any extra stamping. A simple circle sentiment and a touch of ribbon finish it off beautifully.

Easy Patterned Paper Layout – Sketch 2 (Three Vertical Panels)

The second sketch uses three vertical panels across the front, with a small strip along the bottom.

Measurements (Metric – A4 Card Base)
Card base: 14.8cm x 21cm, folded in half
White layer: 9.5cm x 13.8cm
Three panels: 2.8cm x 10cm (3 pieces)
Bottom strip: 3cm x 9cm

This layout is wonderful for combining different patterns from the same DSP pack. Because Designer Series Paper is double sided, you can easily mix bolder designs with softer ones and they still coordinate beautifully.

It’s also a great way to use slightly smaller pieces of patterned paper — nothing complicated, just clean cuts and simple layering.

Painted Illusions DSP – February Product of the Month

For these cards I used the Painted Illusions Designer Series Paper. The soft blending and colour transitions make it ideal for quick layouts because the paper already has depth and interest built in.
