Hot Air Balloon Card For A School Holiday Programme

By | 29 January 2020

Here is the Hot Air Balloon Card that the children who came to a holiday programme that I was able to teach at got to make.

Hot Air Balloon Card

They had three colour choices, Call Me Clover, Pineapple Punch and Grapefruit Grove. These accenting colours were three from the 2018-2020 In Colors, so I used the 2018-2020 In Colors 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper stack for their background coloured piece.

There were over forty children at the holiday programme, so they were split into two groups of about 24 each. I taught one group at a time. From the group, I then divided the children into four smaller groups so that they could move around to four different stations to create different aspects of the card. Once they had all the pieces they needed, they put them all together to make their card.

The four stations were:

  1. Emboss the background using a die-cutting and embossing machine.
  2. Stamp the clouds onto white cardstock with Balmy Blue ink.
  3. Stamp a hot air balloon in black ink onto a piece of coloured cardstock, and punch it out with the Hot Air Balloon punch.
  4. Stamp the sentiment with black ink and punch it out with an Oval punch (now retired). Then punch out a scalloped oval using coloured cardstock with the Scalloped Oval punch (now retired).

The baskets were small and fiddly to do, so I had pre-stamped and punched these out before the class.

The hot air balloon, basket, and sentiment were adhered with Dimensionals to help them stand out a bit more.

Here are some close up photos of the three cards:

It was a busy but fun morning and the children seemed to enjoy making the cards. I had the help of my 13 year old daughter who manned the die-cutting and embossing machine, and then helped with other aspects of the card making. I also had two leaders from the holiday programme who were helping as well. I couldn’t have done it without them.

The hot air balloon card is great for both boys and girls. Which colour is your favourite – Call Me Clover, Pineapple Punch or Grapefruit Grove? Let me know in the comments below. I look forward to hearing from you.
