This week’s tip will help you with your heat embossing. Heat embossing is a great card making technique and it was one of the first things I learned to do when I started making cards many years ago.
When you are heat embossing, before you stamp, make sure you rub the Embossing Buddy over your cardstock. This helps get rid of any static and helps the embossing powder to only stick where you stamp.
What do you need to heat emboss?
Stamp, Versamark ink, Embossing Buddy, Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Cardstock, Scrap paper. Click on the images below if you would like to see them in the store.
How To Heat Emboss
1) Rub the Embossing Buddy over your cardstock.
2) Ink your stamp with Versamark and stamp your image onto the piece of cardstock.
3) Immediately pour embossing powder over your stamped image.
4) Shake off the excess embossing powder onto a piece of scrap paper. You may like to hold up your stamped piece of cardstock over your scrap paper and give it a gentle flick with your finger on the back to help remove any excess powder.
5) Gently crease the scrap paper in half to create a funnel. Tip the excess embossing powder back into the container.
6) Warm up your Heat Tool.
7) Place the piece stamped cardstock on a heat resistant surface or if you are holding it and it is a small piece of cardstock, hold it with some tweezers so you don’t burn your fingers.
8) Hold the Heat Tool over the image (not too close) and watch it melt the powder. Don’t hold it for too long or it will overheat, and it could burn.
Bonus Tip: It is important to make sure you pour your embossing powder on straight away after stamping, otherwise the ink will dry and the embossing powder won’t be able to stick to it.
If you would like to purchase any of the products I have used, and you don’t already have a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator, I would love to be your Demonstrator. I hope you enjoy trying this technique. Heat embossing adds some depth to your card and the Embossing Buddy helps makes your final embossed image that much better.
