Thursday’s Tip: Ten Tips When Using StazOn Ink

By | 19 May 2016

StazOn Ink is a great ink to use because it gives a crisp, clear image and it has a quick drying time.  It is a permanent ink and you can  stamp on both paper and nonporous surfaces, such as window sheets, vellum, plastics, leather, glass, dominoes, tiles and metal surfaces.  It is a perfect to use to stamp an image that you wish to water-colour too.

Here are my top ten tips for you when you are using StazOn Ink:

1)    StazOn is a solvent ink, which means it evaporates as it dries.  To prevent the stamp pad from drying out, do not leave it open to the air for an extended amount of time.

2)    Make sure you keep and use the plastic protective cover found inside your StazOn ink pad.  This helps pfrevent the ink from drying out.  You can even adhere this plastic cover to the StazOn lid with two Glue Dots to make sure you don’t lose it.

3)    Make sure you stamp immediately after you inking your stamp.  If you allow the stamp to sit before stamping you will not get an evenly inked stamped image.

4)    StazOn ink is a permanent ink, but it takes a short bit of time to “dry”.  Allow it to dry completely before adding additional colour.  It will smear if it is not thoroughly dried.  On non-porous surfaces, the ink can take from three to five minutes to dry.

5)    You will need to use StazOn Cleaner to clean your stamp after you have finished using the ink, otherwise the ink will stain your stamps.   The cleaner is specially formulated for this solvent-based ink.  The StazOn cleaner bottle has a rounded felt piece on top.  Tip the bottle over and blot the felt piece directly onto the inked rubber until ink is covered with the cleaner.  Then take a paper towel and blot most of the cleaner (and ink) off the stamp surface.  Check to make sure the rubber is clean.  If needed use more of the cleaner and blot with paper towel.  When stamp is as clean as can be, use the Stampin’ Scrub and Stampin’ Mist cleaner to re-condition the stamp before putting away.

6)    Fine line images work best with StazOn ink. If your stamp image has bold areas, it can be difficult (but not impossible) to ink thoroughly and get a solid stamped image.

7)    You can buy a reinker to reink your StazOn ink pad, so it will last a long time.

8)    StazOn ink comes in both black (Jet Black) and Saddle Brown.

9)    When using White StazOn, you may need to re-ink your pad each time you use it, especially if it hasn’t been used for a while.  White StazOn is good to stamp an image to be water-coloured if you do not want the black outline to show.  It does not stamp real white, but just lightly.  You can colour the image without the lines showing.

10)    Lastly, a word of warning…StazOn is a PERMANENT ink and there are many surfaces from which it is difficult to remove.  Protect your stamping area and please keep out of the reach of children!

That is a tricky if you have lost the plastic cover. Maybe the best thing to do is when are you not using it, put the lid on and then put it in a small sealable plastic bag to stop it from drying out.
