Torn Paper and Masked Background Technique

By | 6 April 2024

To make these cards, I have used a torn paper and masked background technique. It is a simple technique involving cardstock, ink, Blending Brushes, and a stamp set. It creates a wonderful background and you can choose which colours you would like to use. I taught this at Coffee & Cards earlier in the week and then on my Facebook and YouTube Live.

Torn Paper and Masked Background Technique

To make this card, I tore a piece of photocopy paper in half and masked the top and bottom of a piece of Basic White cardstock. You can check out the video to see how I adhered it to keep it in place. You need to be careful as you use the Blending Brush so the paper stays down.

The top three cards are note cards and the two ink colours I have sponged are side by side.

For the second row of cards, they are a standard card size. I have used Orchid Oasis ink at the top and Fresh Freesia ink at the bottom.

The four cards on the outside have the main image stamped with Pebbled Path ink and are matted onto Pebbled Path cardstock. The card at the middle top is stamped in Old Olive ink and has an Old Olive cardstock matting. The card in the middle at the bottom is stamped in Orchid Oasis ink and has an Orchid Oasis cardstock matting.

The main images that I stamped for these cards are from the Gorgeously Made, Dainty Delight, and Botanical Leaves stamp sets. The sentiments are from the Go to Greetings stamp set. All these sets will be retiring at the end of April 2024. If you like them, make sure you get them now, before they are gone for good!

To finish the cards, I added three Iridescent Rhinestones to each card.

Here are close-ups of four cards:

1. A Lost Lagoon and Old Olive masked background with an Old Olive stamped image and matting. The main image is from the Gorgeously Made stamp set.

2. An Orchid Oasis and Fresh Freesia masked background with an Orchid Oasis stamped image and matting. The main image is from the Gorgeously Made stamp set.

3. A Lost Lagoon and Moody Mauve masked background with a Pebbled Path stamped image and matting. The main image is from the Botanical Leaves stamp set.

4. An Orchid Oasis and Fresh Freesia masked background with a Pebbled Path stamped image and matting. The main image is from the Dainty Delight stamp set.
