Two-Tone Stamping with Joyful Tidings – Christmas Card Ideas

By | 8 December 2025

Have you ever tried two-tone stamping with Joyful Tidings? This week in my Facebook and YouTube live, I shared how beautifully this technique works with the Joyful Tidings stamp set, creating lovely blends of green and adding simple little touches to step your card up without making it complicated.

Two-tone stamping is such a great technique because you only need a few basic supplies to get started—your stamp, two coordinating ink colours, a sponge dauber, and cardstock. In my live, I also shared a couple of extra tips, like colouring rhinestones with Stampin’ Blends to make them match, and how to cut ribbon down the middle to make it narrower and more delicate.

If you’d like to see the full process and both cards I made, you can watch the recording of the live here:

I always find it easier to learn when I can see the technique in action, so I hope the video helps you feel confident giving it a try.

Two-Tone Stamping with Joyful Tidings – Simple and Stepped-Up Versions

In the live, I created two cards—a simple note card and a stepped-up version with embossing and die-cut layers. Both use the same two-tone technique by inking the stamp in Old Olive first and then adding Shaded Spruce with a sponge dauber before stamping.

You can see how the different levels of detail give each card its own look, while the technique stays exactly the same.

A few extra touches you’ll see in the video:

Colouring clear rhinestones with Stampin’ Blends so they coordinate perfectly

Sponging the background with Crumb Cake for a softer look. The left is sponged, the right card has not been.

Splitting gold ribbon down the centre to create a more dainty bow:

Why I Love This Technique

Two-tone stamping is such a simple way to add depth and interest without needing lots of tools. Whether you’re new to cardmaking or have been crafting for years, it’s a technique you can use over and over with many different stamp sets.

And if you’re making Christmas cards this year, the Joyful Tidings set offers so many possibilities. It’s also currently on the Last Chance list and reduced, so it’s a great time to add it to your collection if you’ve had your eye on it. You can see it in the online store here. If the stamp set doesn’t come up when you click on the link, it means it has already sold out.

Two-tone stamping with Joyful Tidings is a simple technique, but it creates such beautiful results and you can use it with a variety of stamps. I hope you enjoy trying it and discovering different colour combinations that you love.

Hello Angela, What a clever idea daubing two-tone leaves. I have never seen that idea before but loved it. Also I have tried cutting ribbon down but it frayed too much (must have been a different type of ribbon), also loved the subtle daubing in the background. I am definitely going to try both ideas. Thank you for sharing your ideas. Judy
