Introducing the New Stampin’ Hot Foil System

By | 10 July 2026

A beautiful new way to add metallic shine to your handmade cards has arrived — the Stampin’ Hot Foil System!

Hot foiling adds smooth, shiny foil detail to cards, tags, invitations, gift packaging and other paper crafting projects. It gives a polished, elegant finish that can make a handmade card feel extra special.

My own Hot Foil System has only just arrived, so I am still learning too, but I am looking forward to trying it properly and sharing project ideas with you soon.

What is hot foiling?

Hot foiling is a technique that uses heat and pressure to transfer metallic foil onto cardstock, Designer Series Paper, vellum and other suitable surfaces.

It is different from heat embossing. Heat embossing uses ink, powder and a heat tool to create a slightly raised finish. Hot foiling creates a smoother metallic finish using a heated platform, hot foil rolls and specially made hot foil dies.

It is a lovely option for special cards such as birthdays, weddings, Christmas cards, invitations, gift tags and more.

What is included in the Stampin’ Hot Foil System?

The Stampin’ Hot Foil System & Craft Class is $337 NZD and includes:

  • Stampin’ Hot Foil Platform
  • Stampin’ Hot Foil Shim & Spacer
  • Magnetic Pick-Up Tool
  • Silicone Platform Station
  • Silicone Cooling Pad
  • Power cord
  • Metallic Magic Craft Class

The included craft class is a helpful bonus, especially when you are learning how the system works and would like some project ideas to get started.

What else do you need?

To use the Stampin’ Hot Foil System, you will also need:

  • The standard Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine
  • Stampin’ Hot Foil Rolls
  • Hot foil dies
  • Cardstock or another suitable surface to foil onto

The foil rolls are sold separately and are available in gold, silver and light pink to begin with.

There are also several coordinating products available. The hot foil dies are used with the Hot Foil System, while some stamp sets, masks and cutting dies coordinate with the foiled designs to help you add colour, sentiments and extra detail.

Here is a sample of some of the foil dies and coordinating product:

A few important things to know

The Hot Foil System is designed to be used with the standard Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine.

It will not fit through the Mini Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine or the Big Shot, so please keep that in mind if you already have a die-cutting machine at home.

Stampin’ Up! recommends using the Hot Foil System with the standard Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine. Using it with other die-cutting or embossing machines may affect the product warranty.

It is also important to know that regular cutting dies are not designed for hot foiling. Hot foil dies are different. They transfer the foil design but do not cut the shape. On some projects you may foil first, then use a coordinating cutting die afterwards.

What can you foil on?

The Hot Foil System can be used on a range of suitable surfaces, including smooth cardstock, Basic White Cardstock, Two-Tone Cardstock, vellum, Designer Series Paper, Window Sheets and Pearlized Specialty Paper.

Smooth surfaces usually give the best results.

Stock note

As this is a brand-new product line, stock may be limited at first. More stock is expected, but it may not be until later in the year.

So if this is something you know you would really like, it would be worth having a look sooner rather than later.
