All Aflutter Punch Tips for Simple Butterfly Cards

By | 12 July 2026

All Aflutter punch tips were the focus of my Facebook and YouTube Live on 9th July, along with some simple butterfly card ideas using the All Aflutter Bundle.

In the Live, I shared how to use the All Aflutter stamp set and coordinating punch together, including a few tips to make lining everything up much easier. I also showed several card variations using the same basic layout, with different colours, backgrounds, edging, and butterfly placement.

These cards were also based on the projects we made at my July Coffee & Cards, which made them lovely, achievable cards for a relaxed crafting session.

All Aflutter Punch Tips for Easier Card Making

One of the main tips I shared in the video was how to line up the butterfly stamps with the punch. Sometimes, when using photopolymer stamps, it can be easy to place the stamps on the block slightly out of position. That means they may not line up properly with the punch afterwards.

In the Live, I showed how to use a punched-out piece of cardstock as a guide for placing the stamps on your block. This helps the stamped butterflies fit neatly into the punch.

I also shared how a small sticky note can make it easier to hold the cardstock while positioning it in the punch. It is a simple little tip, but it can make a big difference, especially when punching out smaller stamped images.

Simple Butterfly Card Background Ideas

Once the butterflies were stamped and punched, I showed several ways to use them on cards. Some cards had plain coloured backgrounds, while others had softly sponged butterflies in the background.

I also used the solid butterfly stamps to create a tone-on-tone stamped background. This is a lovely way to add interest without making the card too busy.

The cards also show how different the same design can look depending on whether you use black or white edging behind the Designer Series Paper. The black edging gives a stronger contrast, while the white edging feels softer and more subtle.

Colour Ideas for All Aflutter Butterfly Cards

I used several different colour combinations, including the 2026-2028 In Colors, Crisp Cantaloupe, Hydrangea Hue, Barely Blush, Golden Glow, and Peaceful Pine. Some cards had butterflies in the same colour family as the background, while others used a contrasting colour.

It is always interesting to see how much a card changes just by switching the colour of the butterflies or the background. You can keep the design simple and still create quite a different look each time.

I also gently lifted the butterfly wings and adhered them mainly through the centre. This gives the cards a little dimension and helps the butterflies look as though they are fluttering across the card.
